How to Make Your Own Receiving Blankets for a One-Layer KinderKake™
It's fast and easy to make your own blankets from Polarfleece™. Then get creative with the decorations--perhaps a colorful bottle, a stuffed toy, and a ribbon-rose swag (attached with straight pins)--to personalize your hand-crafted baby gift or shower centerpiece. KinderKakes also make great holiday gifts when decorated for the season (e.g., dated Christmas ornaments, Easter bunnies)!

To make two receiving blankets:
Buy: 1-1/4 yds. of Polarfleece (at least 60" wide; the thicker the fabric, the larger the finished KinderKake will be)
Cut: Two rectangles, each about 30" x 45" (simply cut your piece of fabric in half along the fold line, then trim off the selvages)
Finish: (cut a 1" strip of fabric from one or both rectangles to test edge finishes, if desired)

Option 1--Use a mug or plate to round the corners of each blanket; serge-finish edges using a decorative thread (e.g., pearl cotton, ribbon floss, rayon) with a rolled-hem stitch, a mock- blanket stitch, or a three-thread edge stitch; alternately, hand-finish the edges using a blanket stitch or a rolled hem.

Option 2 (no-sew option)--Since
Polarfleece doesn't ravel, simply cut the
edges nice and straight. Round the corners
or not, as you prefer.

To assemble, follow pattern directions
